Bangko Pangasinan joins UnionBank’s blockchain-based i2i network

Digital banking gets an upgrade for Bangko Pangasinan as it recently joined a growing group of rural banks connected to the country’s financial network.

This developed as the Pangasinan-based bank had signed up with UnionBank’s blockchain-based platform called Project i2i linking it with commercial and other rural banks across the country.

This will enable real-time transactions for farmers, fisherfolk and small businesses as they would now be included in the national automated clearing houses and international payment networks.

The result is a faster, more efficient and reliable banking experience that is “online” with the nationwide financial stream.

Bangko Pangasinan President Gregory de Guzman inked the deal last December 10, 2019 in simple ceremonies held at the Rural Banker’s Association of the Philippines (RBAP) office in Arzobispo street Intramuros, Manila.

Present during the event were Union Bank Chairman J. Antonio Ortiz, UBX President and CEO John Januszczak, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Assistant Governor Restituto Cruz and RBAP President Roberto Abello.
